Aidan Baker is a musician and writer currently based in Toronto, Canada. Classically trained in flute, he is self-taught on guitar, drums & various other instruments. A regular performer in & around Toronto, he has also performed in New York, Montreal, Chicago, San Francisco, & such festivals as The Om Festival, Mutek, SXSW, & The Distillery Jazz Festival. He has released numerous cds on independent labels from around the world. He is the author of two books of poetry, two poetry chapbooks, & has published poetry, fiction, & criticism in various international & scholarly journals.
As a solo artist, Baker explores the deconstructive sonic possibilities of the electric guitar as a primary sound source, creating music that ranges from experimental to post-rock to contemporary classical. He performs the experimental collective ARC & the ambient/doom metal project Nadja. He has also composed work for the The Penderecki String Quartet & The Uxbridge Chamber Choir.
Only Stories is Aidan’s second release on The Kora Records. The album continues in the “drone folk” style first heard on his (nearly out of print) Kora release, Scalpel. All of the sounds on the record were created by voice and 6 and 12 string acoustic guitars. Aidan penned the four songs featured on Only Stories a long time ago, but they were never properly recorded until the fall of 2009, and Kora is ecstatic to release the now on a beautiful fold out letterpress 180 gram vinyl release limited to 500 copies.
