Philip Glass, one of America’s most esteemed composers, is the subject of “REWORK” Philip Glass remixed, a two-disc album/2xLP of remixed Philip Glass works. The album is coming your way on October 23 on The Kora Records in partnership with Orange Mountain Music and Ernest Jenning Record Co.
The idea for REWORK came together during a conversation between Philip and his friend and new collaborator Beck. The pair recruited producer Hector Castillo (David Bowie, Björk, Lou Reed) to help assemble a collection of remixes of Glass’ works by a list of critically acclaimed artists including Beck himself, Tyondai Braxton, Amon Tobin, Cornelius, Dan Deacon, Johann Johannsson, Nosaj Thing, Memory Tapes, Silver Alert, Pantha du Prince, My Great Ghost and Peter Broderick.
The remix project joins in the celebration of Glass’ 75th birthday season, which features performances and events across the globe encompassing every facet of the composer’s decades-long career as a preeminent American composer—opera, chamber music, orchestra music, dance, theatre works and more.
We can not be more honored to be involved in this project.
This fall, we have a couple of gems coming your way, the first of which is “Pink Thunder” by Michael Zapruder. It’s our first time working with Michael, and he’s created quite the “concept” album working with some amazingly talented poets and musicians.
In 2006, the Wave Books Poetry Bus hauled ass around North America, bringing poetry to the people. Michael rode the bus, hung out with the poets, listened to readings, and thought a lot about songs and poems and what they have to do with each other. Back home in California, he rented a cottage in the hills near Napa for ten days, where he concocted twenty-two free-verse pop songs from poems by notable American poets (and, mostly, Poetry Bus riders) like Bob Hicok, David Berman, Mary Ruefle, D.A. Powell, Dara Wier, and Valzhyna Mort. After a number of different recording sessions in a number of different studios, the pieces – poems that are sung and orchestrated; songs that imitate a poem as much as they can – came together. Pink Thunder was born, and, lo and behold, it turned out to look like its parents: a vibrant crowd of poets riding a Poetry Bus across a land of chaos, contradictions and beauty.
It took the contributions of 23 poets, 3 engineers, and many musicians to make Pink Thunder. You are invited to listen to the results coming your way this October.
Happy monday to you! …and a lovely monday morning it is in the increasingly green corner of Brooklyn we call home (well half of us). All kinds of things are sprouting up… not the least of which are records! The new Ramona Fall double LP Prophet is up in the store for pre order today. We have been a fan of Brent from his band Menomena and solo debut as Ramona Falls and we could not be happier to bring you Prophet. The record will be a nice gatefold double lp cut on to colored vinyl at 45 RPMs… cause well… we could and it sounds amazing! The LPs will ship out in just over a month… when it reaches your door and record player I really hope you are as in love with it as we are.
In the mean time… that new Tone album Priorities is still hot off the press! They will be doing more shows as the days warm up. They should be hitting New York this summer so keep your eyes peeled.

Ornament is a collection of remixes from Fredrik’s 2011 album FLORA along with the new instrumental track ‘Fever and Foam‘ that was originally intended to close side A of the FLORA vinyl a spot ultimately filled by the jumpier “North Greatern”. The EP features remixes by Portland-based ambient producer Eluvium, Gregor Samsa (MAB III), and Swedish electronica composer Tobias Lilja. With its nods to the great horror movie soundtracks of the 70’s, the EP makes a dramatic and colorful addition to the Fredrik catalogue.
A quick pre-holiday hello from TKR HQ. We’re excited to be working with DC stalwarts and long-time friends, Tone, on their new album, “Priorities”, a vinyl release due out in early 2012. A couple of other projects are in the works for next year including a pretty rad collaboration that we’ll have details on in a couple of weeks. And those on the west coast, look for Fredrik to come your way for the very first time in just a few months.
